A battle damaged P-47 Thunderbolt of 83rd Fighter Squadron, 78th Fighter Group under repair inside a hangar at Duxford. Based on the information provided by Little Friends webmaster, this P-47D could very probably have been a P-47D-5-RE, serial number 42-8479 and coded HL-Vbar. This aircraft suffered CAT E battle damage on 6 March 1944 when flown by Lt. John D Motsenbocker Jr and was salvaged due to battle damage on 9th March per the Combined Loss Listing. Handwritten on reverse: '78FG DX. 83FS. Hangar works on a cannoned P-47.'
