On July 25, 1943, he was the Pilot of “Toots-Butch,” B-17 tail #42-29606, of the 303th Bomb Group, 360th Bomb Squadron, when it was downed Bad Oldesloe, Germany. 4 KIA-6 POW - MACR 91.

He is buried in the US Military Cemetery at Neuville-en-Condroz, Belgium.
