Flew on 'Swamp Fire' the first B-17 to complete 100 missions without an abort. . The target was never reached as gremlins attacked number 2 engine over the North Sea not too long after departing the English Coast and it had to be feathered. The crew elected, after a hurried conference, to attempt some sort of mission despite inability to keep up with the formation. Things were mighty lonesome by the time the Dutch Coast came in view. the bombs were unloaded in the vicinity of an installation near Ijmuiden and Swamp Fire headed for the bomb.
