Translation of the text on the monument:

"ON THE PLAIN WE SEE FROM HERE DIED AS HEROES TO LIBERATE US

[Three names, with a photo in medallion and mention of the place of origin as well as their birth and death dates]

History:

This monument, erected at the place called “Le Caillois", just outside of Montrœul-Anvaing and inaugurated on 12 September 1945, pays homage to three men who met their death facing this hill, and who are: Jack HARGIS, American soldier whose aircraft was raked by machine gun fire in August 1943, his parachute didn’t open. The two others were Gilbert LAGNEAU and Gérard DOGIMONT, both volunteers in the Armée Blanche (White Army) - (Source: Site of the commune de Montrœul-au-Bois).
