Description: STRAFING MISSION

Notes: A mix of 559 of 586 P-38s, P-47s and P-51s bomb and strafe flak positions in the Nijmegen area immediately before the arrival of the remainder of the US 82nd and 101st Airborne Divisions and the Polish 1st Brigade. 150+ Luftwaffe fighters are encountered. The 78th Fighter Group is awarded the Distinguished Unit Citation for their actions from 6-23-Sep-44 in support of OPERATION MARKET GARDEN. 9th Air Force contributes P-38s from 370th Fighter Group.
