Description

A combined force of 216 P-47s from: 4FG; 56FG; 78FG; 352FG; and 353FG are despatched to provide escort to the B-17 formations attacking at Munster, Germany. The fighters were very effective against the German fighters attacking fromations from 1st Bomb Division, but the 3rd Bomb Division formations really took a pounding with 29 aircraft lost. The fighters only had 1 aircraft that Failed to Return (FTR) 1KIA. 2 others ran out of fuel on the return and made crashlandings 2RTD. The fighters claim 19-0-0 of German fighters.
