A boy in the cockpit of a P-47 Thunderbolt of the 56th Fighter Group flown by Lieutenant-Colonel David C Schilling. Handwritten caption on reverse: 'Boy in Schilling's a/c at Halesworth.' It is likely that this photo was taken before 4 October 1943 as Schilling scored his first victories on that day and photos exist of the aircraft with victory markings painted beneath the cockpit. Harold 'Buzz' Took, one of the people whose story is told in the American Air Museum, lived in Halesworth during the Second World War. He remembers that this boy was evacuated to the area during the war and lived in Holton.
