Staff-Sergeant William F Miller of the 354th Fighter Group examines a bullet hole in the canopy of a P-51 Mustang, flown by Lieutenant Robert Weldon. A censor has obscured the back part of the aircraft and the equipment inside it. Image stamped on reverse: ' Associated press.' [stamp], 'Passed for publication 22 Feb 1944.' [stamp] and '306849.' [Censor no.] Printed caption on reverse: 'HANOVER HAIRRAISER. Associated Press Photo Shows: Crew-Chief S/Sgt William F Miller of Cissna Park, Ill, pokes his finger through the hole in the canopy of a Mustang made by a Nazi bullet which tore through the shoulder of Pilot Lt Robert Weldon's Flying Jacket and shirt, but left him unscathed.' A censor has written: 'Cut on face.' This may refer to Robert Weldon's injuries.
