Gentile, twenty-three-year-old Mustang pilot from Piqua, Ohio, demonstrated his grip on the gun button atop the stick in his fighter. One of the top-scoring U.S. pilots in England, Gentile's score as of April 1, 1944, stood at 22 destroyed, running a dead heat with Capt. Rob[er]t Johnson.
