B-17 Flying Fortresses of the 384th Bomb Group fly through flak attacks during a mission over Berlin, 6 March 1944. Printed caption on reverse: 'Planet, EA 16611. Over Berlin. U.S. Eighth Air Force Flynig Fortresses pass through a flak-filled sky over the greater Berlin area during the great American raid on the German capital March 6, 1944. Black bursts of flak are from enemy ack-ack. Hundreds of enemy fighters engaged the gigantic Alllied Air Fleet over the target and on their return home. In all, Fortresses and Liberators accounted for 93 while the Allied fighters escort destroyed 83, bringing the Luftwaffe losses to a total of at least 176. PRO-HQ-44-303.
