American Liberators which bombed the Ploesti Oil Fields in Romania on August 1st 1943, were presented with The War Department Citation for their heroic deed. Each man recives a ribbon and a "streamer" is handed over which is tied on to the squadron colours. Lt. Gen Spaatz and Lt.Gen Doolittle present the awards. These planes have also taken part in raids on Rome, Wiener Neustradt and have made 4 daylight missions over Berlin. Their attack on the Ploesti Oil Fields was carried out with great skill and courage, in the face of what is probably one of the most heavily defended points in the Axis defence system.
