Corporal Henry Borden of the 94th Bomb Group adjusts his improvised still for preparing distilled water. Printed caption on reverse: 'An Engineering Section Of A U.S. Service Squadron: Associated Press Photos Shows:- Looking like a Rube Goldberg nightmare, this gadget actually is a still for preparing distilled water for storage batteries that are used in planes, cars, trucks, and radios. Inability to secure enough fluid locally, and the breakdown of two patented machines, caused Cpl. Henry Borden, 120 South King Street, Hampton, Va., to rig this still that produces far more than is needed on the base. Borden, shown adjusting the still, has had several offers and approaches regarding the use of his still for harder liquids than water. IRV 263183. 131243J.' On reverse: Associated Press and US Army General Section Press & Censorship Bureau [Stamps].
