A-2 Leather Flying Jacket worn by 1st Lieutenant Robert N Roberts of the 91st Bomb Group. A zipper fronted single-breasted jacket of brown leather with stand & fall collar and patch pockets to the lower front. The jacket has knitted cuffs and waistband and has hand-painted insignia patch to the left breast comprising a white bearded 'Uncle Sam' dropping bombs, on a blue circular field. Above the patch is sewn a leather name tag, having the text, 'R.N. ROBERTS' embossed in gold lettering. To the back of the jacket is painted a B-17 flying fortress aircraft, with the text, ''91st Bomb Gp. Nov 43-45'. Captain Lester Rentmeester, was given this jacket to present to the Museum following Roberts' death. Rentmeester wrote, "Bob flew as my navigator during his first combat tour; he always did an outstanding job."
