Lt. Harold R. Gates enlisted in his hometown of Binghampton, NY, on 9 October 1942. Assigned to the 369th Fighter Squadron on 15 February 1945, he flew 19 combat missions before completing his tour of duty with the 359th Fighter Group on 10 August 1945.
