ZACH T. STANBOROUGH -- Brief Summary of Service Record: Enlisted 28 Mar 1942. Assigned to active duty in May 1943. Served as B-17 Command Pilot operating over Germany, France, Norway, Belgium, Holland, Poland and Czechoslovakia, with the 95th Bomb Group, predominantly with the 336th and 412th Squadrons of the 8th U.S. Air Force. Based in Horham, England. Discharged from active duty in June 1945, with the rank of Captain, after flying 22 combat missions and 4 humanitarian missions. Awarded Distinguished Flying Cross, Air Medal with 3 oak leaf clusters, 3 Presidential Unit Citations, European Theatre of Operations Medal with 7 battle stars, Victory Europe Medal, and American Defense Medal. Continued in the U.S. Air Force Reserve, retiring with the rank of Lt. Colonel on 26 June 1975. Awarded U.S. Air Force Reserve Service Medal. Full Air Force honor guard with salute present for funeral in May 2006. Buried at Greenwood Cemetery, New Orleans, Louisiana. Location of grave: 1 Violet Osier Mercury, Cemetery G.
