The top right ribbon (red & white on blue) is the ribbon for the Distinguished Flying Cross which was not returned with his remains. Bill flew over 60 missions in his P-47. He enlisted at Ilion, NY in January, 1939 the week after his 18th birthday. He went to England in the initial flight of 100 P-47 pilots and was one of the last 4 flying missions before converting to the P-51.
