IMAGE"When Martin B-26 Marauders of the tactical Air Force attacked a road bridge at Embrun, in the upper reaches of the Durance Valley in Southern France, they found a difficult bombing problem. The target was nestled in the long narrow valley with mountains on either side rising to 3000 feet above Marauder bombing altitude. Flying up the valley, to the target the Marauders continued on until it widened sufficiently to bank away for the return flight. In this photo, one of the B-26's passes the road bridge covered with smoke. As a result of this attack, the bridge was made impassable for enemy transport."
