"9th AF Martin B-26 Marauders at the request of Lt Gen George S Pattons 3rd army, pounded the main road junction and barracks area at Dieze, 30 miles southeast of Metz, France 11-9-44 to help clear a path for the advancing American troops. The junction is shown here obscured by smoke from bomb bursts. Reports from 3rd army units, said by the Germans to be opening a strong winter offensive, indicated that the attack was a success and caused confusion among enemy troops."
