"ANOTHER VIADUCT-AAF Martin B-26 Marauders of the 15th Air Force recently (Dec. 23) again attacked the important Antheor viaduct, sturdy communication installation on the Riviera, and scored direct hits across the center of the bridge. The viaduct was put out of commission. The enemy had installed considerable anti aircraft at this vital target since the last visit of the Marauders. Today the crew reported moderate to intense heavy flak. Shortly after leaving the target, the unescorted Martin B-26's were attacked by four enemy fighters. In the ensuing combat, one Me109 was destroyed by Sgt Bailey R Jones of Rural Route #1, Southside, TN a Martin B-26 tail gunner who described his victory as follows: En route home, about 3 minutes from the coast a Me109 made a pass from the rear and above the formation, firing its 20mm cannon. I fired about 150 rounds and he banked away with right side of his engine in flames. Two other gunners saw the enemy plane crash in the water. (Riviera, France)"
