"An airman prays...before going into combat, Sgt Thomas M Barber of Seattle, WA, kneels before the altar at the 96th Bombardment Group chapel. The window in the background honors the dead of the Group. Before going into combat, many airmen say a silent prayer, some call on the minister or Rabbi and often chaplains bless both aircraft and crews before the take off; but this airman has gone to the chapel before taking off on a mission to Germany. Sgt Thomas M Barber 23 of Seattle, WA, kneels before the altar and memorial window dedicated to the airmen of the US 8th AF, 96th Bombardment Group who have been killed in action. The men have contributed over $1600 for this chapel in the 12th century St Andrews church."
