A sporting goods salesman in civilian life, the 21 year old P-51 Mustang fighter pilot of the 8th AF "Skipper Gold", holds Air Medal with 3 Oak Leaf Clusters and Distinguished Flying Cross with 2 Oak Leaf Clusters. Johnson has destroyed 7 German aircraft on the ground, 2 of them while strafing the famous "Buzz Boys" squadron. On one mission, he scored a triple kill an Fw190-, Me109 and Me110 going up in flames after being hit with the .50 cal guns. Strafing trucks, railroad trains and Locomotives also have been a specialty with the Lt."
