"Lt Col Francis S Gabreski, 25, Oil City, PA. 8th AF Thunderbolt pilot who has become the top scoring fighter in the entire USAAF by shooting down his 28th Nazi plane. He commands a fighter sqn which is one of the highest scoring units in the ETO, with more than 200 enemy aircraft destroyed. Col Gabreski holds the DSC, SS, DFC (6OLC), AM (4OLC) and the polish cross of valour. He interrupted his medical studies to enlist in the USAAF in 1940. His first assignment was to Hawaii, where he was when Japan attacked Pearl Harbor."
