Photo of 2nd Lieutenant Armond L Hankin Armand entered service in March 1943. He was commissioned Bombardier-Navigator on October 23, 1943, San Angelo, Texas. He participated in the Normandy invasion. Reported "Missing in Action" over Germany. Awards Air Medal and Purple Heart. Taken from the University of Wisconsin Collection 2nd Lt. Armand L. HANKIN, '44, son of Mr. and Mrs. Sam Hankin, 4430 N. Woodruff Ave. Milwaukee was killed in action over Germany. He was a bombardier-navigator on a B24 Liberator bomber Named Flack Happy and was initially listed as missing on June 20, 1944. He was later Killed In Action when it was determined that his B24 Liberator bomber crashed in the Baltic Sea. On or about August 6, 1944, his body washed ashore near Sassnitz Ruegen Island and was buried in the community Cemetery of Sassnitz by the German Military KIA 1944-06-20
