An early photograph from when Paul Pinkerton was in flight school. The wings on his lapel suggest he may still have been training to be a pilot before transitioning to navigator.

Paul told me of three aircraft on which he flew as navigator from Bassingborne. Liberty Run was a loaner. On their last mission, they lost two engines due to flak and when the tail gunner called out that two ME109's were closing, the captain ordered a course to Switzerland. The crew was interned at Davos Platz. Pinkerton and two crew escaped and made their way back to England. This crew's usual airplane was Round Trip Topsy. I have confirmed one mission on Shoo Shoo (Shoo) Baby, which is now restored and at Wright Patterson in Ohio. As far as I know, with Paul's passing recently, all of the crew are now dead. Pinkerton retired in the 60's with the rank of Major.
