These photos are from the collection of Val Svoboda . As a teenager in Latvia during WW2 they fled and walked of foot through Poland to Germany and worked in aircraft repair factory in Heiligenbeil repairing damaged Luftwaffe aircraft until they were liberated by US Troops in early 1945 . They worked as house keepers for the 10th PRG Photo Recon Group at Furth Airfield near Nuremberg , till the end of the war then other US army units in Occupied Germany and the IRO International Refugee Organisation . She was married and emigrated to Australia in 1950 . She Died in 2015 .
