Report on the service of Hal Ogden, researched and written by Simon Muggleton. The report includes all the entries from Ogden’s log book. A couple of glaring errors I'm afraid! Firstly the 356th FG was NOT known as the "Hell Hawks". That was the name of the 365th FG - part of the 9th Air Force. Secondly, "Zemke's Wolfpack" was purely and simply the 56th FG and nothing else. Even when Zemke went to the 479th FG, the 56th still kept that name, as they do to the present day.

Numerous volumes on the 56th Fighter Group, Originally known as "Zemke's Avengers" a Stars and Stripes journalist coined the name Zemke's Wolfpack in February 1944 and the name has stuck ever since. It refers ONLY to the 56th's composite squadrons - 61st, 62nd and 63rd Fighter Squadrons. See Feb 1944 Stars and Stripes.
For Hell Haeks, see published histories and in particular "Thunderbolts of the Hell Hawks" (365th Fighter-Bomber Group in Words, Pictures and Illustrations) by Don Barnes, John Crump and Roy Sutherland.
