An unidentified B-17G of the 401st Bomb Sq, 91st BG, "Lady Helen of Wimpole." Wimpole Hall, adjacent to the 91st's base at Bassingbourn, housed a hospital for the recovery of wounded 8th AF airmen. The ship was named for Lt Helen Pierson, Army Nurse Corps, who was assigned to the 163rd Gen. Hospital at Wimpole Park and later married 401st commander MAJ John Davis. The naming ceremony is thought to have taken place in April/May of 1944. Nose art painted by Cpl Anthony Starcer, which he signed. NAR Ref 342-FH-3A10722-C62809AC
