My father, Patsy Angeloni, was a tail gunner and served at the 487th in Lavenham. He arrived very late in the war Apr 45. However his crew ended up with one of the Planes from the 447th BG. My father and his crew ended up with a Harvard plane. The name was MY GAL #4239882. It was originally assigned to the 447 BG at Rattlesden. The 487th BG does not have this plane listed in the inventory but photos belonging to my father show the serial number 42-39882. It was the plane they trained in and they are the ones who returned the plane stateside from the UK in early July 1945.

The plane was renamed MY GAL ELLEN II. The P on the tail is from the 487th BG H located at Lavenham. The WW was painted on the tail by the by the co-pilot, William Schulze, of the Herbert Smith Crew in Early July 1945 just before they brought the plane home to the USA. Also the 4F on the side of plane signifies 837th sq. The photos and information listed here are from records and papers from my father, Patsy Angeloni, who was a member of that crew. When this crew arrived in April 1945 they were assigned to this plane at the 487th. I cannot find this plane in the inventory of the 487th BG, but the fact remains there are the photos, the flight records from the pilot and my father’s paperwork all from the 487th BG.
