On 18 March 1945, while strafing an airfield near Berlin, Major Pierce W. McKennon (left), was forced to bale out of his flak damaged aircraft. He came to earth in a relatively large field, and Lt. George Green (right), was inspired to land and attempt McKennon's rescue. Both men discarded their parachutes and then Green, sitting on McKennon's lap, managed to take off and fly them back to Debden.
