North American P-51B Mustang QP-E, Serial No. 42-106767, flown by Lt. Herbert J. Blanchfield was one of the first natural metal finish Mustangs to join the 4th Fighter Group in May 1944. On 9 May 1944, Lt. Blanchfield was shot down in this aircraft and became a POW.
