A ground crewman of the 363rd Fighter Group guides a P-51 Mustang (B3-M, serial number 42-106772) nicknamed "Patrice". Passed for publication 3 Nov 1944. Handwritten caption on reverse: 'Credit USAAF. 363rd F.G., 381st F.S., 9th Air Force.' Printed caption on reverse is damaged: 'Riding The "Mustang". The novel sight as U.S. Air Force Mustangs taxi up ready for a take-off. Owing to the position of the pilot, taxi-ing up is made much easier if someone with a clearer field of vision acts as guide. This is usually done by the chief of the ground crew of each plane, seated on the left wing tip and with hand signals guiding the pilot into position in readiness for the take-off.
