An Aerodrome in Nancy, France after being strafed by the 479th Fighter Group, 18 August 1944. Gun camera image. Colonel Hubert Zemke (commander of the 479th Fighter Group) has handwritten on the reverse: 'Nancy/ Essey attack on 18 Aug 1944 by two Squadrons of the 479th Fighter Group. 2nd Lt Caliv J Murphy just what Murphy is aiming at is a bit difficult to determine. This is welll after the initial aircraft had been set on fire. Murphy claimed 1-0-0 FW 190, 0-0-1 Ju 88. When the black smoke became so thick and dense- I finally pulled the P-38s off. Not bad total e/a destroyed 43-0-28.'
