Colonel Hubert Zemke of the 56th Fighter Group inspects the battle damaged wing of his P-47 Thunderbolt. Handwritten caption on reverse: 'Result of a German 20mm Cannon hit on the left ammunition bay. Just N of Paris over the Seine River about a week after "D-Day"- June 1944. Zemke had turned into counter the attack of ME 109s coming from above. The wing man of Zemke broke without warning the Colonels Capt George E Bostwick shot the EA down before more hits scored.'
