Leonard Kutter, the materal uncle of Colonel Hubert Zemke, 56th Fighter Group, in the German army during the First World War. Zemke has handwritten on the reverse: 'Leonard Kutter- an uncle on my mother's side as a solider in WW1 (he is seated on the extreme right (X) 1914- Fought four years to be captured by the French and put in Prison camp. There he escaped to swin the Rhine & return to the Army. Following the war he immigrated to Corfu NY to set up a cheese factory. He two sons now operate a very successful factory.'
