A B-24 Liberator nicknamed "The Tweachewous Wabbit" of the 487th Bomb Group takes off from Lavenham airfield in 1944. Handwritten caption on reverse: 'Tweacherous [sic] Wabbit, 489BG[sic], 6/44.' This is B-24H 42-52425 'The Tweachewous Wabbit' of the 837th Bomb Squadron (4F-A), 487th Bomb Group, taking off to the northwest from runway 33 at Army Air Forces Station 137, Lavenham, Suffolk, England. This was the original aircraft of Lt Loye J. Lauraine Jr and his crew, one of the original 487th Bomb Group crews. The pilots have set 20 degrees of flap for takeoff, and the aircraft is climbing out of ground effect. Other B-24s wait their turn for takeoff on the perimeter track in the background. The large dark building on the horizon at far left is the T-2 sub-depot hanger at the technical site on the northeast side of the base. The buildings of Park Farm are visible on the horizon at center. They lay between the perimeter track and runway 15/33. The Lavenham control tower and the buildings of Lodge Farm are out of view to the right. This photo was taken between April and July 1944, the time period during which the 487th Bomb Group flew the B-24 in England.
