Restored P-47 Thunderbolt (HV-P, serial number N5087V/ 42-23278) as it appeared in Farmingdale in 1961. Later re-registered N347D before it was donated to the U.S. Air Force Museum a few years later. Handwritten caption on reverse: '61st F.S. 56th F.G. 8th Air Force. Fairchild Hiller Corporation (Republic Aviation Division).' Printed caption on reverse: 'From: Fairchild Hiller Neg. No. H-22735. H-22735. XP-47B ... The Republic Aviation Corporation's first fully completed Thunderbolt was the XP-47B. Designed by Alexander Kartveli, this huge new super-fighter was test flown in May of 1941. Power was supplied by a 2,000 horsepower eighteen cylinder Pratt and Whitney "Double Wasp" radial air-cooled engine boosted by a General Electric turbo-supercharger.'
