64th Troop Carrier Group
GroupUSAF Photo
The Group trained with the Eighth Air Force flying from Ramsbury, Wiltshire. The Group was reassigned to the Twelfth Air Force on 14 September 1942. Its first mission was dropping paratroops into French North-West Africa, at Maison Blanche, Algeria on 11 November 1942. Across the course of the war, the Group deployed paratroops during the Allied invasion of Tunisia, Sicily, Italy and southern France. From June 1944, the majority of 64th TC Group transferred to the CBI (China Burma India theater) and its squadrons operated out of several different bases in India. Their work there supported the Allied armies in Burma.
