Winthrop A Jackson
MilitaryShot down 30 December 1943 in B-17 #42-31274 'Sea Hag', Returned to base. Flew total of 23 missions. Flew his last mission as command pilot of Crew #40 on board 'Satan's Playmate' #42-97510 on a mission to V-1 Rocket sites near Sottevast, France. Two aircraft were lost over target due to continuously tracking flak guns. Another aircraft blew up over the English Channel trying to return. "Satan's Playmate" was bracketed by flak over the target. #4 engine was knocked out and Jackson was seriously wounded. He spent 9 months convalescing in an English hospital and never flew combat again.
