Ten days after he reached England, Second Lieut. William E. Maxwell, 20, son of Mr. and Mrs. Herbert Maxwell of 80 Mang Ave., Kenmore, was killed Oct. 18 1944 whilst at the controls of P-47 Thunderbolt 42-7974WW. The aircraft was involved in a mid air collision with another P-47 of 495FTG at Atcham, Maxwell was sadly killed in the initial impact and went straight in with the aircraft.
The remains of his aircraft was recovered in 1998 and he was buried with military honors in the American Cemetery at Cambridge. A senior in Kenmore High School when he enlisted in the Air Forces in Octo- ber 1942, he was called to active duty in February 1943 and was commissioned April 15, 1944. Besides his parents, he is survived by a brother, Fire Controlman (2d Class) John S. Maxwell, USNR, 24, and two sisters, Miss Dorothy L. Maxwell and Mrs. Richard C. Newell.
