Maj. William C. Forehand earned one aerial victory while flying with the 368th Fighter Squadron from April 1943 thru 1 October 1944. He completed his combat tour of duty with the 359th Fighter Group with 300 hours and returned home to Kokomo, IN.
Aircraft included P-47D CV-O 42-75113 "Daisy Mae" and P-51D CV-O 44-13539.
On 30 May 1944 the 368 Squadron flew with wing tanks a target support mission for bombers of the 1st A.T.F., per Field Order #354. Target: Dessau. Group led by Col. Tacon. Time up: 0905; time down: 1332. L/F in N. Hague 0956, 19,000 ft. L/F out 1257, N. Ijumuiden, 16,000 ft. R/V 1055, SE Nordhausen. Broke off escort N. Dessau, after being bounced by 10 Me 109s at 36,000 feet about 20 miles SW of Dessau. Encounters resulted in two Me 109s destroyed. Fight carried N of Dessau where Squadron left bombers and came home. Enemy aircraft did not get to bombers. One Me 109 destroyed: Capt. William C. Forehand. One Me 109 destroyed (shared): Lt’s Robert W. Hawkinson and John B. Hunter.
