Staff Sergeant Walter B. MacKenzie was born August 18, 1921. His next of kin were his mother, Mary MacKenzie, and his sister, Mary Irene MacKenzie. His hometown was New Dorp, New York.

On November 5, 1943, he was serving as Assistant Radio Operator aboard “Big Assed Bird,” B-24 tail #42-7490, of the 392nd Bomb Group, 576th Bomb Squadron, when it was downed over Udem, Germany.

He is buried in the US Military Cemetery at Neuville-en-Condroz, Belgium.
