There are indications that elements of this Group were stationed for a short time at several airfields for training. Lt. Smith may not have actually been station at this field.

Added Youks-les-Bains Airfield. The description of the field indicates the 14th Fighter Group was station at this airfield during the last months of 1942.

Added 48th FS to record. 1LT Smith was in this squadron leaving the US in 1942, stopover in England, then on to North Africa by Nov.  1942.  This info is from John Stanaway's book "P-38 Lightning Aces of the ETO/MTO". The book includes a picture of Lt Smith standing by his P-38 "KNIPTION".
