Other First Combat mission |
Munich, Germany | 21 July 1944 | Our first mission was to Munich. Shortly after the coast we had to shut down the #2 engine due to a severe oil leak. We were flying "Gran Slam." Later, flak took out the turbine wheel on the #1 engine. We salvoed the bombs and dropped to 8500 feet and limped home after aborting the mission just 20 minutes from Munich. |
