TSGT Brannan was the Radio Operator aboard B-17 tail #44-6304 of the 305th Bomb Group, 422nd Bomb Squadron, when it crashed over Vollradisroda, Germany, on August 16, 1944, which was his 24th birthday. Of the crew of ten on board, only the pilot, 2nd LT Darrell V. Betz, survived.
Brannan is buried in St. Mary’s Cemetery in Wilkes-Barre.
