Part of this crew flew the low-level mission to Ploesti, Romania and was lost over the target when the time-delay fused bombs from planes over the target earlier exploded and took the plane down, killing the crew. The pilots, Lts. Scrivner and Anderson flew the mission with some of the crew who volunteered to go after already completing a 25 mission tour. T/Sgt. William Coll (engineer/TTG), Sgt. Thomas Schappart (LWG) and Sgt. Marvin Mickey (RWG) from the regular crew and four other men scrapped together for the mission tried to take-off in one plane, but a bad fuel leak forced them to take another B-24 ("Scrappy II" a B-24D-53-CO s/n 42-40375). The other four men were; 2nd Lt. Robert E. Young, a bombardier from the 506th BS; 1st Lt. Philip P. Phillips - navigator; T/Sgt. Channing N. Satterfield - radio operator; S/Sgt. Hugh J.
