Shot down 14 October 1943 in B-17 #423195. Killed in Action (KIA). As a member of Flight Officer Verl D Fisher's crew he died on the second Schweinfurt raid. It was the 25th and final mission of his combat tour. After helping the wounded radio operator (TSgt Harvey Bennett) and the left waist gunner (SSgt Loren M Fink) to bailout, he was temporarily thrown back into the aircraft as it lurched under yet another attack. He was killed by a 20mm shell as he again attempted to exit his B17. Details of his last mission obtained from George Kuhl's book, "Wrong Place, Wrong Time."
