Born 26 Feb 1923 Boone Co, Iowa. Was stationed at Thurleigh Field, Bedford, England with the 8th Air Force, 306 Bomber Group, 368 Bomber Squadron. Reported 22 Sept 1944. Originally part of Carl Hathaway Crew. Went on mission which involved bombing Bingen-on-the-Rhine on 29 Dec 44 in B-17 #4339031. He was the Navigator in a nine man crew. While bombing at Bingen AC was hit by flak shell just after it had dropped all bombs. Bomb bay doors were still open so shell fragments hit inside bomb bay and started fire. AC left formation and started spiral down to crash. Crew members were able to bail out. Five men were captured and became German POWs, and four men were KIA. He spent the rest of the war in POW camp. Released 14 June 1945. Died 10 Oct 2013 Amarillo, Potter County, Texas in Llano Cemetery, plot:Sect 1A, Lot 412, Space 1.
