Pocking Airfield, Germany | 16 April 1945 | 2/LT Russell Edward Kenoyer was killed in action as a Mustang fighter pilot (P-51D, E9-L, "Frances") with the 8th Air Force, 376th Fighter Squadron on 16 Apr 1945 over Muhldorf, Germany. 16 April 1945 - Missing Air Crew Reports (MACRs) of the U.S. Army Air Forces, 1941-1948 While flying Yorkshire White 3 on April 16th on a strafing misssion on Pocking Airfield, I followed my flight leader and his wingman, Lt. Kenoyer, down on the field. They disappeared into the smoke from the burning planes. I went through with my element and when I came out of the smoke, followed the two ships in front of me, believing them to be #1 & 2 of my flight. I caught up with them and saw they were not; at the same time I heard the Group leader call to reform. On the way to the reforming point I saw a yellow tailed ship bellied in but the nose was on fire and I couldn't tell the color. On return to home base Lt. Kenoyer was missing. HARRY M. CHAPMAN, 1st Lt., Air Corps |
