Roy Lw Holtman
MilitaryOn one mission a German ME109 came so close that Roy saw the pilot in Class A uniform. That was when Roy's navigator had forgotten to charge his guns. He would have shot the ME 109. Flak was a real problem. Please refere to article in Aviation History entitled 'Ambursh over Magdeburg' This was Roy's 24th birthday, 9/12/44. roy flew Deputy Lead to Ellis Woodward and led Woody back to England after 10 of the 12 b-17s went down. Also refere th 'Flying School' Combat Hell page 177.
