Richard Gregory McChrystal

Richard was born in Tientsin(Tianjin) China, son of Arthur J. McChrystal, an officer with the American Occupation Forces (15th Infantry). He was raised in Hillsboro and San Francisco, CA. Graduating from Bellarmine Prep School, he spent a year at MIT, then joined the Army Air Corps, flying P-38s and P-51s as bomber escort and ground strafing. After earning the rank of Captain with 71 combat missions, he left the army, married his sweetheart, Barbara Ruth Bledsoe and started a family with three children, Karen Ann, Stephen Gregory and Marcia Corinne. He also continued his studies and earned a degree in Chemical Engineering from Stanford University. He settled in Whittier, CA.
